Might not feel like it yet, but Spring is officially here! The focus will soon be outdoor – alfresco lunches, weekend pottering in the garden – cannot wait. So now is the perfect time to think of sprucing up your garden. The best trick I can give you is to decorate them like you would you’re inside space. I’ve shot in many amazing houses all over the world for my three books, and many of the best outdoor spaces share the same key things for an amazing, enticing atmosphere:
Create a seating zone
One that is conducive to yabbering – I’m not talking the odd plastic lounger lined up (like waiting room chairs or a self help group!). I’m thinking more a couple of loungey comfy chairs, a fab coffee table, perhaps a hammock or hanging chair and even the odd impromptu pouffe. The sort of place you can imagine settling down with friends, putting the world to rights over a bottle of wine!
Cosy up with a fire pit
We have an outdoor fireplace which at this time of year I love firing up for lazy weekend afternoons. It means we can still enjoy our garden on those chilly, lacklustre days! Have a couple of throws on the side, some candles and pretty soon you’ve created the perfect ambience.
Year round style
I don’t know about you guys but I don’t want to bring everything in for winter, I want to look at my beautiful garden year round. That means seeking out hardwearing, all-weather pieceis. All my chairs, coffee tables, chandeliers, pendants and side lights are all weather proof and can endure the elements. Teak is a great wood for outdoors, and you can now get weather specific rugs, pillows even sofas.
Accessorise, accessorise accessorise
Think lanterns, hanging glass balls for t-lights in trees, vases, and mirrors even. Add some of your signature style to the space – that way you’ll beautifully be able to blend outside with in! Check out more , or shop my fave outdoor pieces here.
