Oddly enough I don’t get January blues – I happen to love the fresh start of the New Year as I’ve said numerous times. But I know so many people don’t, and as it’s Blue Monday I thought I’d combat January doldrums with some simple pleasures. These are all low-tech, digital-free ways that you can unwind, switch off or connect with something fun as a break from stress days. These to me capture the lovely cosy contented feeling of early morning pottering or languid Sunday afternoons. All these things make me seriously happy. In no particular order then:
A turmeric/ginger latte. Grate one teaspoon each of fresh turmeric and root ginger, add a teaspoon of coconut oil, a teaspoon of coconut sugar and warmed almond milk, zhoosh around in a blender and drink. Delish! This warms me from the inside out every time and feels so creamy and indulgent, even though it’s pretty healthy for you. Love it.
…anything by Anna Jones. I adore her cooking, from the lentil ragù to the nachos – it’s all vegetarian, plant-based nutritious food. I could eat from her recipe book every single day. Yum.
Bear with me here, but I really think that in the right mood tackling cleaning or organising tasks can be really satisfying. I’m not talking daily drudgery or chores here, but giving your home a little love, and feeling better about it in the process. I like pottering around and cleaning out kitchen cabinets, or tackling the cupboard underneath the stairs. It makes me feel more on top of things! The thing I love the best is lavender oiling my floors. When I mop them I add a few drops of lavender essential oils to the bucket. It makes it smell amazing and you get to come home to freshly mopped floors with the calming fragrance of lavender. Nice!

I wish I could get outdoors for a good run, but with a dodgy hip I can’t so it’s for me. It’s harder on cold winter mornings when I have to leave the house at 6.40 and peddle through a dark park to go to yoga for an hour, but it always makes me feel so much better afterwards. I’m energised but calm and ready to face the day! Plus there is all that releasing of endorphins which certainly help.

Pamper yourself a little. Curl up on the couch with a book, flick through a magazine, take a scented bath, call a friend you haven’t spoken to in ages – refocus, recharge, reboot!
Write down your goals. I like goals they keep me motivated – health goals, food goals, house goals, biz goals I have goals for everything! I’ve actually been using my blog as a place to commit to these publicly, so if you’re interested these are my and resolutions for the year.
