Inspiring Decorating quotes

We’ve got a new theme on our website, on mobile and now the blog as we’re integrating the blog into the site, something that I have been wanting to do forever and a day. I’m excited it’s now all under one umbrella. It’s been the biggest month of change here at AA. We’ve opened in Shanghai; both London stores have had massive revamps and now look cooler and more enticing then ever, if I can say such things!

I’m not sure what quite kick started this massive month of change, I just know I’m never satisfied and always think I can do better, push the envelope further. The same goes for decorating. I don’t know about you guys but sometimes you can get stuck in a rut. Especially this time of year when we start to be indoors way more I certainly become far more critical with how everything looks and feels.

Sometimes though you can get into a bit of conundrum with decorating so its always good to up the motivational levels by reading a few inspiring quotes. US Elle Decor recently did a feature with zillions of quotes from leading designers and here are some of my favourites:

Jan Showers, “Every room needs a touch of black, just as it needs at least one antique piece.”

Too right Jan, add black to anything and it adds immediate sophistication in my book.

Bunny Williams, “If you love something it will work. That’s the only real rule.”

I love Bunny’s quote because it is so true. Don’t follow trends, worry about what is hot or not just follow your heart.

Juan Montoya, “A room should never allow the eye to settle in one place. It should smile at you and create fantasy.”

Anyone who has been to one of my Design Classes will know that I spend a lot of time drilling into this. One focal point just doesn’t cut the mustard, you need at least three!

Nate Berkus, “Your home should tell the story of who you are, and be a collection of what you love.”

Right on, Nate.

Kathryn Ireland, “Serious is a word that must be entirely avoided when it comes to decoration.”

Absolutely. you should always have fun with your home decor.

Lucien Rees Roberts, “My idea of comfort is a good lamp to read by.”

I don’t know about you but I feel inspired to go finish off all those areas (rooms in my case) that stand neglected!
